NARRATIVE

In order to properly align Western Union’s environmental sustainability goals with its commitment to staff and the community, Western Union Digital—headquartered at 185 Berry Street in San Francisco—became the very first office within the corporation to achieve LEED certification. Incorporating a sustainable and responsible outlook into all aspects of operations and corporate culture is a top priority for the company. With its new San Francisco office, Western Union Digital focused on adopting environmental stewardship practices in the heart of the operations center. Recycling, Reduction and Reuse are the targets of Western Union Digital’s global initiative program entitled “Black and Gold Goes Green”, a multi-faceted concept centered around its LEED certified corporate headquarters.

stok was hired to perform LEED for Commercial Interiors (CI) certification services for the office build-out. With stok’s guidance, Western Union Digital took a holistic approach to greening their build-out. Its final LEED score included elements such as community connectivity and the availability of alternate forms of transportation, energy and water utilization optimization, construction waste diversion and the use of reclaimed or certified building materials, as well as indoor environmental quality. Beyond just LEED Certification, Western Union Digital’s determination and investment in pursuing a well-rounded sustainable building will continue to promote healthy productivity within the space as well as the overall longevity of the company.
