NARRATIVE

The Newcastle Elementary School District is in the foothills northeast of Sacramento, California. Built in the 1950’s, the school had an original design providing natural light to classrooms with clerestory windows and light shelves, which have since been covered or blocked with ducting. Recognizing this original design made this site a great opportunity to re-introduce natural and enhanced lighting strategies for the classrooms.

In collaboration with PG&E ZNE Schools Pilot Program and CA Prop 39 funding, Newcastle elementary was able to qualify for funding assistance to retrofit their building to provide energy efficient and engaging spaces for their students.

In collaboration with Point Energy Solutions, stok performed utility data analysis, site visits, energy modeling and life cycle cost analysis to identify the best financially performing Energy Efficiency Measures. stok, the prop 39 team, and the school board examined these measures and selected ones which best fit within the project budget and provided an enhanced learning environment for their students.
