NARRATIVE

Each year, over 63,000 veterans are treated at the Palo Alto Veterans Administration (VA) hospital. The Defenders Lodge provides state-of-the-art accommodations for these veterans for more than 20,000 nights of stay each year.

Required by the Federal Mandate for Sustainability & Energy Reduction and supported by stok’s integrated Life Cycle Cost & Energy Analysis Team, the project achieved exceptional sustainability and resiliency. This Federal VA project received LEED Gold certification and has above average energy performance. This includes producing 30% of its hot water with  on-site solar thermal in addition to a 30% energy use reduction achieved through energy efficient design features.
